About the Role:
We are seeking a highly motivated and experienced Clinical Pharmacist Specialist to join our Cardiology and Vascular Team at University Hospital Southampton NHS Trust. As a key member of the team, you will provide specialist pharmaceutical review of medication for cardiology, cardiac, vascular, and thoracic surgery patients.
Key Responsibilities:
- Provide specialist pharmaceutical review of medication for cardiology, cardiac, vascular, and thoracic surgery patients.
- Work with the multidisciplinary team to advise on medication for CV&T patients to optimise their care.
- Deliver education and training to a wide range of healthcare professionals working within CV&T.
- Contribute to department-wide audit, research, risk management, and clinical governance.
- Develop guidelines to ensure safe prescribing practice.
- Work with clinicians to optimise medication for heart failure patients and assist with the development of specialist clinics for optimisation of secondary prevention medicines.
Requirements:
- A pharmacist with experience of cardiac patients.
- Ideally already have an independent prescribing qualification, but if not, we can support your training to become an independent pharmacist prescriber.
- Already completed or almost finished further postgraduate study in clinical pharmacy.
- A highly motivated team player, who is keen to learn.
Working Arrangements:
This is a full-time band 7 clinical pharmacist position working in a department of over 300 pharmacy staff. The CV&T pharmacy team is made up of pharmacists, medicines management technicians, and SATOs delivering a pharmacy service to 180 beds. CV&T is a tertiary service, delivering care to patients across the South of England.
You will be expected to work 1 in 5 late nights until 7 PM and 1 in 6 weekend days (either Saturdays or Sundays). All staff are required to contribute to extended hours, weekend & bank holiday rotas. UHS employees are able to access a range of NHS discounts, are entitled to a minimum of 35 days paid holiday (pro rata), and we offer a generous pension scheme.

The post-holder will be encouraged to work towards the new RPS core Advanced Practice Curriculum and have the opportunity to undertake further study in either clinical or management qualifications. We are also keen to support pharmacists developing as researchers and can offer support via the Southampton Pharmacy Research Centre.
