About the Role

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Mental Health Practitioner to join our team at Central and North West London NHS Foundation Trust. As an Education Mental Health Specialist, you will play a key part in delivering low-intensity interventions to children and young people in education settings with mild to moderate mental health problems.

Key Responsibilities
  • To deliver evidence-based interventions for children and young people in education settings with mild to moderate mental health problems.
  • To help children and young people within these settings who present with more severe problems to rapidly access more specialist services.
  • To support and facilitate staff in education settings to identify and manage issues related to mental health and wellbeing.
  • To work with and within education environments to afford better access to specialist mental health services.
Requirements
  • Qualified Education Mental Health Practitioner or CYP Wellbeing Practitioner with a Post Graduate Qualification or Degree level in Mental Health Nursing, Social Work, Occupational Therapy, or equivalent.
  • Registered with a relevant professional body or pending completion.
  • Experience of working with children and young people, their families, and others in a healthcare or school setting.
  • Experience of working with children and young people who have social, emotional, and/or behavioural difficulties.
  • Experience of working with anxiety and affective disorders.
  • Experience of delivering specific low-intensity therapeutic interventions to children, young people, or their families (CBT, solution-focused brief therapy).
  • Ability to conduct other group therapeutic interventions with children and their families.
Skills and Knowledge
  • Ability to work within educational settings to increase mental health awareness within the staff group.
  • Ability to make an assessment of risk and to record and communicate it appropriately.
  • Knowledge of safeguarding issues.
Personal Qualities
  • Able to travel to meet the requirements of the post.
