New Investigator in Population and Systems Medicine

This funding initiative is designed to support innovative research in the field of population and systems medicine. It aims to assist researchers in their transition to independence, fostering the development of independent research careers.
Funding DetailsApplicants can seek funding for projects that typically have a full economic cost of under £1 million, with the funding body covering up to 80% of this cost. The funding period generally spans three years and may cover up to 50% of the applicant's salary.
Eligibility CriteriaTo qualify for this funding opportunity, candidates must:
- Demonstrate the necessary skills and experience for a successful transition to independence.
- Have the backing of a research organization eligible for funding.
- Be able to direct and lead the proposed research project independently.
- Focus their application on the area of population and systems medicine.
Additionally, eligible candidates may include:
- Postdoctoral research assistants, provided their current employment concludes before the grant commences.
- Individuals holding lecturer positions, junior fellowships, or other research roles.
- Researchers with early career training fellowships.
- Non-clinical or clinically active researchers, regardless of their years of experience.
Applicants are not eligible if they have achieved independence through substantial grant income or have previously held awards that facilitate the transition to independence. Other disqualifying factors include:
- Having applied for a new investigator research grant more than once.
- Currently having an application under consideration for any UKRI fellowship.
International applicants may be included as project co-leads if they contribute significantly to the project's intellectual design or execution. The project lead's current supervisor should not serve as a co-lead.
