Accounts Assistant – Field & Flower

Field & Flower is a prominent UK food subscription service established by two friends with a shared passion for agriculture and culinary excellence. We specialize in high-quality, ethically sourced meat and fish, alongside a variety of gourmet products that support sustainable farming and local communities.

Position Overview

We are seeking a meticulous and organized Accounts Assistant to become a vital part of our finance department. The successful candidate will play a key role in overseeing the company’s financial operations, ensuring precision and efficiency in all accounting tasks, and demonstrating a proactive approach to learning and development.

Key Responsibilities

Your responsibilities will be diverse and tailored to the business's requirements. Key duties include:

  • Managing the purchase ledger: maintaining records, allocating payments, reconciling monthly statements from major suppliers, and requesting credits.
  • Matching purchase invoices to corresponding purchase orders using our custom purchase order system.
  • Overseeing the sales ledger, which is minimal due to our sales receipt-based model, and handling credit control.
  • Ensuring compliance with relevant financial policies and procedures in all accounting activities.
  • Addressing both internal and external inquiries via phone and email.
  • Conducting daily bank feed matching and monthly bank reconciliations; managing petty cash and expenses.
  • Preparing supplier payments for weekly payment runs, addressing queries, and sending remittances while updating the live cash flow spreadsheet.
  • Maintaining a schedule of supplier bank details.
  • Assisting in the preparation of the monthly VAT return by ensuring eligible VAT is reclaimed.
  • Overseeing the asset register.
  • Performing ad hoc tasks to support the Financial Analyst and Head of Finance.

Essential Skills

  • AAT part or fully qualified (experience may be considered in lieu of formal qualifications).
  • Familiarity with Sage or a willingness to learn cloud-based systems and new ERPs.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Excel.
  • Ability to thrive in a fast-paced environment while maintaining a keen attention to detail.
  • Strong communication skills with the capability to collaborate effectively across teams.

Work Schedule
