Job Summary
The Defence Innovation Directorate is a key component of the Ministry of Defence's approach to addressing the challenges of the 21st century. This role sits within the Chief of Staff area, working closely with the Defence Innovation Unit (DIU) and the Defence and Security Accelerator (DASA).
The Defence Innovation Unit is responsible for leading the delivery and coordination of innovation activities across the Department, breaking down barriers to innovation and engaging stakeholders across Defence and government, as well as key international partners and allies.
This is a diverse team of civil servants and military personnel with varied professional backgrounds, including policy, project delivery, and science. The Chief of Staff area reports directly to the Director Defence Innovation, providing a vital role in raising the importance of innovation across Defence.
This position is advertised at 37 hours per week.
Key Responsibilities
- Manage and own the Director's diary, arranging and de-conflicting meetings in line with the Director's needs.
- Research and book travel options within MOD policy and assemble and organise the Director's briefing materials.
- Liaise with stakeholders across MOD, government, academia, and industry.
- Deliver verbal briefs to the Director and wider team to give context behind meetings.
- Provide office management services, including room bookings, visitor management, reprographics, and logistics requests.

- Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
- Excellent organisational and time-management skills.
- An ability to prioritise tasks effectively.
- Good IT skills, familiar with basic Microsoft O365 apps.
- Enjoy working in a rapidly changing area, quickly responding to emerging issues.
