Role Responsibilities
The IT Support Technician plays a crucial role within the IT Support Team, which is part of the IT Service Management Group under the Enterprise Infrastructure Solutions Unit in the Computing Division. This position is responsible for managing centrally coordinated IT services and infrastructure across various sites. The Enterprise Infrastructure Solutions unit, in collaboration with the ITSM group, utilizes ITIL principles to enhance capabilities in General Management, Service Management, and Technical Management. The IT Support Team serves as the primary interface for the Computing Division, ensuring effective delivery of IT Service Desk functions while adhering to ITIL best practices and focusing on efficient incident and service request management. This role, based in the designated location and reporting to the IT Support Team Leader, is essential in representing the Computing Division and delivering independent IT support services.
Key Responsibilities:
- Responsible for 1st and 2nd line IT support, assisting remote users alongside the main IT Support team when local workload allows.
- Oversee hardware support for various computer systems, including maintenance, repairs, and replacements for desktops, laptops, and related peripherals.
- Monitor and resolve connectivity issues related to network performance and telecommunications systems. Provide support for multiple operating systems, including Microsoft Windows, MacOS, and Linux, while implementing imaging and application deployment processes.
- Manage user accounts in Active Directory, oversee information storage, and ensure data security, while supporting meeting room video conferencing technologies.
Essential Qualifications:
- HNC in Computing or equivalent experience in IT Support.
- Strong knowledge of operating systems: Microsoft Windows 10 and 11, Mac OS, and Linux.
- Proven experience in managing PC imaging and application deployment.
- Competence in IT domains, including networking, server management, and security, with the ability to provide support in the absence of on-site representatives.
- Extensive practical knowledge of office software systems, including MS Teams, Outlook, Word, Excel, and related licensing.
- Strong understanding of end-user IT security measures, including malware protection, password management, identifying phishing attempts, and maintaining software updates.
- Analytical approach to problem-solving.
- Experience in industrial controlled environments.
- Familiarity with products such as Forticlient, NoMachine, and protocols including DNS, DHCP, SMTP, IPV4, as well as concepts of high availability and failover, server and storage optimization.
- Experience in collaborative cross-functional teams within scientific research and plant environments.
