Job Title: Senior Residential Childcare Support Worker

We are seeking a highly skilled and dedicated Senior Residential Childcare Support Worker to join our team at Apple Orchard. As a key member of our residential care team, you will play a vital role in ensuring the care and welfare of each child in our homes.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead the care and welfare of each child in the home, ensuring their individual developmental needs are met and they reach their full potential.
  • Plan and prepare activities that meet the young people's needs and stimulate their learning and integration within the home.
  • Stay up-to-date with legislation, guidelines, and policies to ensure compliance with the Children's Act, Children's homes regulations, and national minimum standards.
  • Support and lead Residential Support Workers, ensuring all staff comply with policies, procedures, and risk assessments.
  • Observe and assess young people's progress, keeping accurate records of their achievements, behavior, and important events in their lives.
  • Work with local authorities and placing authorities to ensure the care young people receive is outstanding.
  • Establish and maintain positive working relationships with parents/carers, supporting young people's learning and development and valuing parental involvement where appropriate.
  • Be flexible with working practices, undertaking domestic tasks within the home, including meal preparation, cleaning, and shopping.
  • Work alongside the Manager and staff team to ensure the philosophy behind the home is fulfilled and raise any concerns to the Registered Manager.
  • Keep clear and legible records regarding the young people, ensuring entries are non-stigmatising and distinguished between fact, opinion, and third-party information.

Essential Skills:

  • Previous experience working with teenage boys or challenging behavior, with a willingness to further develop skills.
  • A valid driving license and access to a vehicle, as public transport is not viable due to the rural location.
  • A Residential Childcare/Families Practitioner Diploma/Children and Young People's Workforce/NVQ Level 3 in Health & Social Care or equivalent, or a willingness to work towards a required qualification.
  • Ability to engage young people in a wide range of activities, supporting them towards independence and adulthood.
  • Flexibility with working hours, including days, evenings, and weekends, with shift work and every other weekend off.
  • Ability to challenge unacceptable behavior, provide firm boundaries, and provide care that meets individual needs.
  • Ability to work as part of a team, follow delegated tasks, and maintain policies and procedures.
  • Effective communication skills, both verbally and in writing, with the ability to engage and listen.
