We are in search of a proficient and credible Commercial Strategy Lead who can adeptly navigate the realm of Private Commercial Enterprises, particularly within Global FTSE 250 firms and SMEs that specialize in Manufacturing. A strategic understanding of Procurement in both Private and Public Sectors, along with familiarity with complex Government Contract regulations related to Nuclear and MOD, is essential. Experience collaborating closely with the Cabinet Office and the Ministry of Defence will be highly advantageous.

SC Clearance is a prerequisite for this role, and prior security clearance would be beneficial.

Key Responsibilities:

As the commercial lead for business operations teams and sponsors, you will be responsible for assessing future potential pipelines prior to formal budget approval, constructing business cases for various market entry strategies. Collaborating with sponsors, your tasks will include:

  • Conducting make/buy analyses to ascertain whether a new infrastructure solution or outsourcing represents the best value.
  • Performing route to market analyses to confirm if solutions can be delivered under existing frameworks or if a single contract is necessary.
  • Developing a Commercial Case to align commercial and investment decision-making processes.
  • Working alongside the commercial engagement team to ensure the statement of requirements is fully understood and agreed upon.
  • Facilitating the handover to commercial strategy and procurement teams once the commercial case is finalized.

The Commercial Strategy Lead will oversee a team of two, mentoring and developing solutions that align with the needs of the Head of Strategic Sourcing.

  • Commercial Acumen: Demonstrated experience in translating business requirements into a comprehensive commercial strategy, with a deep understanding of core commercial risks.
  • Experience: Proven track record of managing complex commercial strategies exceeding £500m, whether in construction projects or major complex programs (e.g., defense or rail).
  • Leadership & Influence: Essential skills to produce effective strategy documents, present to C-suite executives, and influence decision-making processes.
  • Data-Driven: Ability to analyze business and commercial data to generate insightful recommendations.
