About the Role

We are seeking a highly skilled and motivated Laboratory Technician to join our team in the Department of Applied Sciences. As a key member of our team, you will be responsible for providing technical support to our research and teaching activities in the Biosciences laboratories.

Your primary duties will include assisting in the delivery of high-quality technical services, supporting research projects, and maintaining specialist laboratory spaces and equipment. You will work closely with our Senior Technician to respond to and resolve technical support issues and requests in an efficient and effective manner.

Key responsibilities will include:

  • Providing technical support to students and staff
  • Advising staff and students on the operation, monitoring, maintenance, and security of equipment and facilities
  • Instructing staff or groups of students on the use of specialist facilities and equipment
  • Undertaking administrative tasks to facilitate responsive and recordable action to support the technical requirements of the Faculty
  • Assisting in planning specialist facilities and costing of apparatus and resourcing for new and existing facilities
  • Assisting in the provision of specialist equipment in Faculty facilities, confirming it is available and operating effectively

About You

To be successful in this role, you will have experience of working in specialist laboratory, workshop, or studio facilities with relevant skills, techniques, processes, and procedures. You will have experience of receiving and responding to enquiries from/to customers, providing support in a technical context, and practical experience of undertaking or contributing to health and safety activities such as risk assessment and/or COSHH.
