About the Role
We are seeking a skilled and motivated Faculty Technician to join our team in the Department of Applied Sciences. As a Faculty Technician, you will play a key role in supporting research and teaching activities in the Biosciences laboratories.
Your primary responsibilities will include assisting in the delivery of high-quality technical services, supporting research projects, and maintaining specialist laboratory spaces and equipment. You will work closely with the Senior Technician to respond to and resolve technical support issues and requests in an efficient and effective manner.
You will also be responsible for providing technical support to students and staff, advising on the operation, monitoring, maintenance, and security of equipment and facilities, and instructing staff or groups of students on the use of specialist facilities and equipment.
In addition, you will assist in planning specialist facilities and costing of apparatus and resourcing for new and existing facilities, and assist in the provision of specialist equipment in Faculty facilities.

The Department of Applied Sciences is a dynamic and thriving community of academics, researchers, and students working in the fields of biological and chemical sciences. We have a strong research focus and a commitment to excellence in teaching and learning.
About You
To be successful in this role, you will have experience of working in specialist laboratory, workshop, or studio facilities, with relevant skills, techniques, processes, and procedures. You will also have experience of receiving and responding to enquiries from/to customers, providing support in a technical context, and practical experience of undertaking or contributing to health and safety activities such as risk assessment and/or COSHH.
