Position Overview

We are seeking a dedicated Policy Analyst to become a vital part of our Built Environment Committee team, situated within the Committee Office. In this role, you will spearhead comprehensive research and analysis across various public policy domains, while also providing written and verbal briefings and coordinating evidence sessions with diverse stakeholders.

This position offers a unique and fulfilling opportunity. Your contributions will significantly influence and shape a variety of topics that fall under the Committee's scope, with recent inquiries addressing modern construction techniques, the effects of environmental regulations on development, and the revitalization of high streets in urban and rural areas.

You will have the flexibility to work remotely for up to three days a week, depending on business requirements, alongside a minimum of two days on-site. This role is ideal for individuals with a strong interest and prior experience in this policy field, who thrive in a dynamic and fast-paced environment.

Key Responsibilities

  • Monitoring significant policy and political changes in housing, planning, transport, and infrastructure.
  • Proposing and researching topics for Committee investigation and drafting inquiry scoping documents.
  • Identifying and reaching out to potential oral evidence witnesses, and preparing relevant questions for Committee members.
  • Creating background briefings on critical issues.
  • Analyzing and summarizing evidence submitted to the Committee.
  • Participating in committee meetings and providing oral briefings to the Chair and Committee members.
  • Collaborating with the clerk to draft committee reports and correspondence.
  • Engaging with a variety of stakeholders interested in the Committee's work and maintaining a network of contacts.

If this opportunity aligns with your interests and expertise, we encourage you to consider applying.

  • The ability to quickly gain proficiency in new topics.

Communication Skills

  • Exceptional written communication abilities, with a talent for distilling extensive material into clear, concise, and analytical briefings and reports.
  • Strong oral communication skills, enabling effective representation of the Committee to a broad range of stakeholders and the establishment of a robust network of contacts.

Political Acumen

  • A solid understanding of the political context surrounding the Committee's work and broader public policy discussions.
  • The capacity to produce objective and balanced work, free from personal political biases.
