About the Climate Change Committee
The Climate Change Committee (CCC) serves as the independent expert advisor to Parliament and the UK Government on matters related to climate change policy. Established under the Climate Change Act, the CCC plays a crucial role in guiding the UK towards its long-term climate goals, including achieving Net Zero emissions by 2050.
Internship Objective
The CCC is seeking a policy intern to assist in the analysis of cross-sectoral cascading risks stemming from electrical disruptions. This analysis will inform the upcoming Fourth Independent Assessment of Climate Risk (CCRA4-IA), aimed at enhancing the UK's climate resilience.
Key Responsibilities
- Refine the existing analytical framework for assessing cascading risks.
- Conduct thorough research on historical instances of electrical disruptions.
- Apply the analytical framework to case studies and synthesize findings.
- Identify vulnerable sectors, highlight risk factors, and propose potential interventions.
- Engage with stakeholders to gather insights and enhance understanding of the risks involved.
Skills and Qualifications
While a background in cascading risk is not mandatory, a strong interest in climate change and its societal impacts is essential. The ideal candidate will possess:
- Data collection and qualitative analysis skills.
- Ability to synthesize qualitative and quantitative information.
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
