Clinical Research Associate in Neurology

An opportunity has arisen for a Clinical Research Associate specializing in Neurology to contribute to a consortium focused on utilizing real-world data to investigate long-term outcomes in individuals with multiple sclerosis.

The ideal candidate will possess substantial experience in clinical neurology and a strong background in multiple sclerosis or neuroinflammatory conditions. You will become part of a robust research team renowned for its achievements in the field. The successful applicant will be expected to pursue a higher degree (PhD/MD or equivalent).

This position is full-time and is available immediately on a fixed-term basis.

Salary: Competitive, aligned with clinical grade standards. The starting salary may be subject to limitations based on funding availability.

Job Overview
Purpose of the Role
To support the Trust within the multiple sclerosis and neuroinflammation research group, engaging in supportive tasks, offering guidance, and leading initiatives in this domain.

Key Responsibilities

  1. Conduct clinically relevant research in multiple sclerosis and neuroinflammation, contributing to the overall research output of the Trust through measurable achievements such as securing funding, publishing in academic journals, and supervising postgraduate research students.
  2. Develop research objectives and proposals for independent or collaborative research projects, including funding applications.
  3. Manage administrative tasks related to the research project, ensuring effective planning and organization for accurate and timely reporting.
  4. Engage with research collaborators, including patients and advocacy groups, to promote and enhance research activities.
  5. Recruit patients for related clinical trials and develop real-world data to facilitate analysis of long-term outcomes in multiple sclerosis and other neuroinflammatory diseases.
  6. Collect relevant biological samples, including blood and cerebrospinal fluid, through appropriate medical procedures.
  7. Register for and undertake a PhD or MD in a relevant area as agreed upon.
  8. Disseminate research findings through effective national and international publications, seminars, meetings, and conferences.
  9. Communicate research to diverse audiences, including the public, clinicians, and academics, through engagement activities.
  10. Establish and nurture networks both within and outside the Trust to influence decisions, explore future research needs, and share innovative research ideas.
  11. Prepare applications for research ethics and governance as necessary.
  12. Review and synthesize existing research and clinical literature in the field.
  13. Participate in Trust research initiatives.

Candidate Profile
Essential Qualifications
  1. Qualified medical practitioner with full GMC registration and a license to practice.
  2. Extensive experience in neurology and/or neuroinflammatory disease.
  3. Demonstrated professional knowledge in specialist areas, including:

  5. Multiple sclerosis and neuroinflammation
  6. Analytical skills to interpret and present complex data effectively to varied audiences.
  7. Ability to communicate detailed and complex information clearly and professionally.
  8. Proven capability to secure research funding.
  9. Experience in developing networks to contribute to long-term research initiatives.
  10. Aspirations for an academic clinical career and willingness to pursue a higher degree (PhD/MD or equivalent).
  11. Evidence of successfully managing and delivering specific projects.
  12. Experience presenting at conferences and meetings.
Desirable Qualifications
  1. MRCP qualification.
  2. Experience in recruiting participants for clinical trials.
  3. Fluency in Welsh, both written and spoken.
