Clinical Research Associate in Neurology

An opportunity has arisen for a Clinical Research Associate specializing in Neurology to contribute to a consortium focused on utilizing real-world data to investigate long-term outcomes in individuals with multiple sclerosis.

The ideal candidate will possess substantial experience in clinical neurology, particularly in the areas of multiple sclerosis and neuroinflammatory conditions. You will become part of a dynamic research team recognized for its impactful contributions to the field. The successful applicant will be expected to pursue a higher degree (PhD/MD or equivalent).

This is a full-time position (40 hours per week) with a fixed-term contract.

Salary: Competitive, aligned with Clinical Grade D1. Initial salary offers are typically made at the lower end of the scale unless exceptional circumstances apply.

Job Overview
Purpose of the Role
Support the Trust's research initiatives within the multiple sclerosis and neuroinflammation domain, providing guidance, support, and leadership on various projects.

Key Responsibilities

  1. Conduct clinically relevant research in multiple sclerosis and neuroinflammation, contributing to the overall research output of the Trust through measurable achievements such as securing funding, publishing in reputable academic journals, and mentoring postgraduate research students.
  2. Formulate research objectives and proposals for independent or collaborative projects, including funding applications.
  3. Manage administrative aspects of research projects, ensuring effective planning and organization for timely reporting.
  4. Engage with research stakeholders, including patients and advocacy groups, to foster and promote research activities.
  5. Recruit patients for related clinical trials and develop real-world data to analyze long-term outcomes in multiple sclerosis and other neuroinflammatory disorders.
  6. Collect relevant biological samples, including blood and cerebrospinal fluid, through appropriate medical procedures.
  7. Enroll in and pursue a PhD or MD in a relevant field as agreed upon.
  8. Disseminate research findings through national and international publications, seminars, meetings, and conferences.
  9. Effectively communicate research to diverse audiences, including the public, clinicians, and academics, through engagement activities.
  10. Establish and nurture networks both within and outside the Trust to influence research directions and share innovative ideas.
  11. Prepare applications for research ethics and governance as necessary.
  12. Review and synthesize existing literature and research within the field.
  13. Participate in research activities within the Trust.

Candidate Profile
Essential Qualifications
  1. Qualified medical practitioner with full GMC registration and a license to practice.
  2. Extensive experience in neurology and/or neuroinflammatory disease.
  3. Demonstrated professional knowledge in the following areas:

  5. Multiple sclerosis and neuroinflammation
  6. Analytical skills – capable of analyzing and presenting complex data in various formats to diverse audiences.
  7. Effective communication of detailed and complex information to a wide range of individuals (both clinical and non-clinical).
  8. Proven ability to secure research funding.
  9. Experience in developing networks to support long-term research initiatives.
  10. Aspirations for an academic clinical career and willingness to pursue a higher degree (PhD/MD or equivalent).
  11. Evidence of successful project management and team supervision.
  12. Experience presenting at conferences and meetings.
Desirable Qualifications
  1. MRCP.
  2. Experience in recruiting participants for clinical trials.
  3. Fluency in Welsh, both written and spoken.
