ROLE SUMMARY

Key Responsibilities

In this role, you will deliver expert professional and specialized guidance in the exploration, study, and evaluation of architectural structures and the historic built environment. Your responsibilities will include:

  • Managing and contributing to projects focused on historic structures, locations, and sites, aligning with our strategic objectives and research initiatives.
  • Enhancing and sharing knowledge through training sessions, developing guidelines and recommendations, overseeing commissioned projects, and supporting internships.
  • Upholding our reputation as a leading authority in the field.

Important Considerations

  • This position requires frequent travel to various sites, libraries, and archives, which may not be easily accessible via public transport.
  • Occasional overnight travel and some evening or weekend work may be necessary.
  • Engagement in cross-regional and national projects may require travel beyond the local area.
  • Site visits may involve working at heights and on construction sites.

Candidate Profile

  • A high-level academic or professional qualification in architectural history, building archaeology, or a related discipline, or equivalent practical experience.
  • A comprehensive understanding of various methodologies for investigating historic sites and areas, including historic area assessments.
  • Extensive knowledge and experience in analyzing and interpreting the historical elements of buildings, including skills in measured surveys and photographic documentation.
  • Proven track record in project management and successful delivery within the historic built environment sector.
  • Exceptional research capabilities, with confidence in utilizing both primary and secondary resources, whether online or in-person (libraries, archives, etc.).
  • A broad understanding of British architectural history and general history, with a specialization in one or more specific areas.
