Job Summary

Vallum Associates is seeking a skilled Lead Data Engineer to play a key role in developing and maintaining robust cloud-based solutions for the benefit of data scientists, analysts, traders, and other business teams. As a technical authority, you will be comfortable and confident presenting new ideas to the team, and mentoring our senior engineers of tomorrow.

Key Responsibilities
  • Design and Development: Work with Senior Engineers and Senior Managers to design scalable, performant, and cost-efficient data systems in support of the data platform team's objectives, and improve upon existing platform technologies and tooling.
  • Requirements Gathering: Engage with other teams to understand their business use cases for data; interpret and document these requirements for the data platform team, and plan the tasks that will be needed to fulfil them.
  • Problem-Solving: Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to address conflicts and impediments to keep the team on track. You will thrive in a fast-paced, dynamic environment, where you're adaptable to changing priorities and requirements.
  • Data Ingestion and Transform: Write data ingestion and transform jobs, and optimised ETL/ELT pipelines.
  • Technical Expertise: Strong SQL & Python skills is essential.
  • Mentorship: Mentor junior data engineers: lead by example in technical expertise through regular code review feedback, training, and fostering an environment of growth and continuous learning.
  • Complex Data Solutions: Demonstratable experience in a Senior/Lead technical data engineering role that has delivered complex data solutions.
  • Cloud Data Tooling: Experience in a role that has delivered complex data solutions. We want you to be passionate about data, keeping a keen eye on new technologies to influence and drive business choices to add additional value to our Customers.
  • Data Engineering Best Practices: A solid understanding of AWS cloud data tooling, whether it be ELT/ELT tooling, or enterprise data platforms is essential in order for you to develop data functionality on the data platform.
  • Mentorship and Knowledge Transfer: A strong understanding of data engineering best practices and standards that you have developed into data functionality to be consumed by technical teams and users. Be passionate about mentoring, knowledge transfer and embedding best practices into teams.
