About the Opportunity

The Commonwealth of Virginia is seeking a visionary leader to serve as the Dean of the Frank Batten College of Engineering and Technology. As a key member of the university's senior leadership team, the Dean will play a critical role in advancing the college's mission and strategic objectives.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide strategic leadership and vision for the college, aligning with the university's overall mission and goals.
  • Develop and implement a comprehensive strategic plan to drive growth, innovation, and excellence in research, teaching, and community engagement.
  • Lead and manage a team of senior administrators, faculty, and staff to achieve the college's objectives.
  • Foster a culture of diversity, equity, and inclusion, promoting a welcoming and inclusive environment for students, faculty, and staff.
  • Develop and manage budgets, allocating resources to support the college's priorities and initiatives.
  • Build and maintain strong relationships with external stakeholders, including industry partners, alumni, and community leaders.
  • Represent the college and the university in various forums, promoting the college's reputation and advancing its interests.
  • Stay abreast of emerging trends and best practices in engineering and technology education, incorporating innovative approaches and technologies into the college's programs and services.

Requirements

  • Terminal degree in engineering or a related field.
  • Proven track record of leadership and management experience in a higher education setting.
  • Strong strategic planning and budgeting skills.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to build and maintain strong relationships with internal and external stakeholders.
  • Commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience in fundraising and development.
  • Knowledge of ABET accreditation processes.
  • Experience with program assessments and evaluations.
  • Strong understanding of emerging trends and best practices in engineering and technology education.
