Quantity Surveyor Role

The Quantity Surveyor plays a pivotal role in ensuring the commercial aspects of projects are executed in accordance with contracts, company policies, and customer satisfaction.

Key Responsibilities:
  1. Effective management and issuance of accurate, timely, and compliant notices and correspondence.
  2. Preparation and assessment of applications, valuations, cost/value reconciliation.
  3. Cost control and forecasting, including preparation and provision of monthly reports on value, cost, profit/loss, cash flow, and budget.
  4. Preparation and agreement of applications for payment or assessment and preparation of payment certificates.
  5. Project forecasting and assisting with Risk and Value Management to optimize solutions.
  6. Contract Management, including contractual forms, methods of budgetary control, and relevant software applications.
  7. Preparation of supply chain enquiries, negotiation, administration, and finalization/closure of supply chain contracts.
  8. Liaison with site teams, subcontractors, and customer representatives, ensuring all notifications/documents are managed in accordance with contracts and customer/company policies.
  9. Record-keeping, including collation of site records, preparation of meeting packs, meeting invites, and taking meeting minutes.
  10. Providing contractual advice to project/site teams as necessary.
  11. Maintaining awareness of current construction contracts and implementing relevant requirements within the discipline.
Required Qualifications, Skills, Behaviours, and Attributes:
  1. Demonstrable financial and commercial acumen.
  2. Experience with NEC3.
  3. Demonstrable forecasting experience.
  4. Experience in managing subcontractors and work packages.
  5. Excellent organizational and communication skills.
  6. Practical approach, logical thought process, and methodical way of working.
  7. Ability to think creatively and innovatively when solving problems.
  8. Experience with office management systems, including filing systems and document control and distribution.
  9. Technical minute-taking skills at contractual meetings and ability to collate information and prepare reports.
  10. Experience drafting contractual correspondence on behalf of the Project Manager and preparation of payment certificates and interim financial reports.
  11. Contribution to procurement and contract strategies.
  12. Negotiating and team-working skills, with the ability to motivate and lead.
  13. Strong analytical skills.
  14. Demonstrable legal, contractual, and construction knowledge.
  15. Confidence and ability to assert influence.
  16. Hold an RICS/CICES accredited Degree (or equivalent) or be enrolled on an accredited part-time post-graduate Degree.
