Position Overview

Are you a compassionate individual with a strong desire to assist others? Do you possess the ability to provide comfort and reassurance to patients during their transport to and from medical facilities? If you are an adept driver who can navigate busy urban environments with ease, this role may be ideal for you.

We are seeking Patient Transport Operatives who will receive comprehensive training to ensure the safe, caring, and secure transportation of patients to their appointments.

This position involves operating various patient transport vehicles, including cars and larger ambulances, utilizing both manual and automatic transmissions. Flexibility is essential, as you may work independently or as part of a two-person team.

Supporting our vulnerable patients is a critical aspect of this role, which includes frequent lifting and moving of patients using various equipment such as stretchers, carry chairs, and wheelchairs.

Key Responsibilities

  • Transport a diverse range of patients to and from outpatient appointments, renal dialysis, admissions, and discharges, ensuring safety and timeliness.
  • Engage with patients, their families, and the public in a calm and professional manner, treating everyone with dignity and respect, even in challenging situations.
  • Deliver a high-quality service to patients and their caregivers, prioritizing their safety and well-being throughout their journey.
  • Adhere to organizational policies and procedures, ensuring compliance with safety standards and maintaining professional conduct.

About Our Organization

Guy's and St Thomas' NHS Foundation Trust is dedicated to enhancing the hospital environment and patient experience. Our Patient Transport Service (PTS) is designed for individuals who cannot travel independently due to medical or mobility issues. We assess all transport requests based on medical necessity, providing a range of vehicles equipped to meet diverse patient needs.

Job Duties

  • Complete necessary operational documentation, including daily vehicle inspections and patient lists.
  • Drive a variety of ambulance vehicles in accordance with established training standards, ensuring the safety of passengers and compliance with traffic regulations.
  • Conduct daily vehicle checks to confirm roadworthiness, reporting any defects as per established protocols.
  • Restock and maintain vehicle equipment in line with organizational policies, ensuring cleanliness and readiness for use.
  • Utilize Trust-approved patient handling equipment, assessing the best methods for moving patients while considering their medical and cultural needs.
  • Safely secure patients and their belongings during transport, ensuring their comfort and safety throughout the journey.
  • Assist patients in their homes before and after transport, addressing their basic needs and ensuring a safe environment.
  • Report any incidents or concerns regarding patient safety or well-being in accordance with Trust policies.
  • Maintain confidentiality and adhere to data protection regulations at all times.

Qualifications and Skills

Essential:

  • Level 2 Diploma or equivalent qualifications in relevant subjects.
  • Experience working with individuals in various settings.
  • Strong communication skills and the ability to prioritize tasks effectively.
  • Full UK driving license.
