London, Greater London, United Kingdom Greater London Authority Full time
Overview of the Greater London Authority

The Greater London Authority (GLA) plays a pivotal role in supporting the Mayor of London, Sadiq Khan, in achieving the city's goals.

To assist the Mayor, Deputy Mayors, and senior advisors such as the Chief Digital Officer and Night Czar, the GLA is structured into four specialized units:
  • Communications
  • Mayoral Operations
  • Policy and Delivery
  • Political and Public Affairs
About the Team

Led by Natan Doron, Mayoral Head of Policy, and Jamilla Hinds-Brough, Mayoral Head of Delivery, the Mayor's Policy and Delivery Unit (MPDU) is essential in overseeing the implementation of the Mayor's manifesto across various sectors, with a strong emphasis on the Mayor's strategic priorities.

The MPDU ensures that policy development is cohesive and synchronized throughout the GLA family. They provide guidance on comprehensive policy and delivery initiatives and manage the clearance of policy documents and reports.

Role Summary

This position is central to the MPDU and is ideal for individuals in entry-level policy, project management, or campaign roles within the public or charitable sectors, as well as those interested in a dynamic political environment.

Key Responsibilities
  • Provide advisory and administrative support to the Heads of the MPDU, ensuring the quality of outputs and the effective operation of meetings and processes.
  • Assist in the governance and efficient functioning of key cross-cutting policy forums, including committees of the Mayoral Delivery Board.
  • Support the Deputy Chief of Staff and the Heads of Delivery and Policy in overseeing the execution of the Mayor's priorities.
  • Act as a liaison for senior GLA officers and policy teams wishing to engage with the MPDU.
Daily Activities
  • Compile briefings for MPDU colleagues and the broader Mayor's Office on various topics.
  • Assist the Heads of Policy and Delivery in managing daily and weekly priorities.
  • Participate in meetings with senior colleagues, documenting actions and ensuring follow-through.
  • Support the Heads of Policy and Delivery in responding to government policy announcements.
  • Collaborate with GLA officers to advance policy development and program execution.
Required Skills and Experience

To qualify for this role, candidates must demonstrate the following essential criteria:
  • Experience in policy development within a local authority, government agency, or a large organization with similar responsibilities and resources.
  • Understanding of devolved government and experience working with politicians in a democratic setting or a high-pressure environment.
  • Proven ability to provide professional advice and support in relevant areas while building effective relationships with senior managers and politicians.
  • Track record of establishing productive working relationships.
  • Experience in managing competing priorities in a high-pressure organization.
Application Process

To apply for this position, candidates must submit:
  • An updated CV
  • A personal statement (maximum 1500 words) addressing how they meet the essential criteria outlined in the job description.
Important Notes

Assessment Process

Shortlisted candidates will be invited for an interview/assessment.

The GLA values diversity and strives to ensure its workforce reflects London's diversity at all levels. Applications are encouraged from individuals of all backgrounds, including those from underrepresented groups.

Benefits
The GLA offers hybrid working arrangements, competitive salary packages, and a comprehensive benefits package, including annual leave, interest-free loans, and a pension scheme.
