Electric Powertrain Program Manager

Optamor, a pioneering organization dedicated to reshaping the electric vehicle sector through advanced technology and innovative engineering methodologies, is seeking a Electric Powertrain Program Manager to become an integral part of our esteemed Vehicle Electrification Division. This position will report directly to the Engineering Manager – Powertrain Delivery.

This role will be executed in a hybrid model, allowing for flexibility while collaborating with some of the most innovative professionals in the automotive industry.

As a key member of a high-performing engineering team, your focus will be on the effective management and successful execution of Electric Powertrain Programs, encompassing high-voltage batteries, electric motors, power electronics, thermal management systems, and their integration across various vehicle applications.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Oversee the delivery and attribute balancing of Electric Powertrain systems for a designated vehicle program, functioning within a matrix engineering framework.
  • Accountable for the cost, quality, and timing of the team's deliverables.
  • Assist in the development of technical proposals for both clients and suppliers.
  • Lead a team of engineers in designing EV architectures, integrating technological solutions, and delivering components from suppliers and cross-functional teams.
  • Report on progress and milestones to the Project Management Office (PMO) and actively engage in planning and scoping activities.
  • Provide direction to ensure that critical components are accurately specified, integrated, and packaged in line with vehicle requirements, including compliance with environmental, electrical, functional safety, EMC, and legislative standards.
  • Supervise the Design Failure Mode and Effects Analysis (DFMEA) process to ensure comprehensive coverage of technologies and risks associated with the program.
  • Serve as a point of escalation for any integration challenges that may occur between electrical and vehicle teams.
  • Establish and maintain a risk register to capture, understand, assign, and mitigate identified risks appropriately.
  • Promote a fault management system to ensure effective resolution of outstanding issues.
  • Collaborate with technical engineering managers to support recruitment and the ongoing professional development of the engineering team.

Candidate Profile:

  • Possession of an engineering degree in Electronics, Control Systems, Automotive, or a related field. Other recognized engineering qualifications combined with significant relevant experience will also be considered.
  • Extensive experience with Electric Powertrains (from Battery to Driveshaft) in an automotive engineering context.
  • Recent experience in delivering high-volume vehicle programs.
  • A motivational leader capable of maximizing the potential of a diverse, multi-skilled team.
  • Articulate, self-driven, and proficient in working independently.
  • Project management certifications are advantageous.
  • Demonstrable knowledge of electric powertrain architectures and associated principles and technologies, including thermal management, high-voltage harnessing, electrical safety systems, serviceability, and control strategies.
  • Experience in system/component delivery within frameworks such as APQP, Six Sigma, or similar methodologies (FMEA, DVP, quality planning, PPAP, etc.) and full product lifecycle activities.
  • A thorough understanding of the V-Cycle and its application in the automotive sector.
  • Experience in project engineering with Tier 1 suppliers, including preparation of project documentation and reports, risk management, and recovery planning.
  • A valid driving license is essential. No visa or other restrictions for working in the UK or traveling within the European Union.
