The successful candidate will play a pivotal role in ensuring the delivery of exemplary pharmacy services, guided by the line manager who will evaluate the competencies required for the position. The Lead Pharmacy Technician will serve as a crucial liaison between clinical wards and the pharmacy department, overseeing the management of patients' personal medications and the implementation of streamlined dispensing processes, while also contributing to discharge planning and patient education.
Key Responsibilities
- Ensure adherence to organizational policies and procedures relevant to Pharmacy Technicians, with compliance monitored by the line manager.
- Deliver high-quality, patient-centered pharmacy services in collaboration with clinical staff.
- Act as the primary technical contact between wards and the pharmacy, managing inquiries and requests efficiently.
- Oversee the safe, precise, and timely distribution of medications to various departments, coordinating with pharmacy team members and supply chain personnel.
- Maintain quality standards and performance metrics for service enhancements.
- Participate in dispensary operations as needed, providing support across different specialties in accordance with established protocols.
- Assist the Pharmacy Clinical Services team in advancing the pharmacy technician service.
- Conduct accuracy checks on clinically reviewed prescriptions, following established policies.
- Adhere to departmental standard operating procedures to ensure accurate medication dispensing.

Job Responsibilities
- Act as the deputy for the Dispensary Manager during their absence, ensuring the dispensary operates smoothly and addressing any issues that arise.
- Organize dispensary services, including inpatient and outpatient care, ensuring performance targets are met with guidance from the Dispensary Manager.
- Assist in the creation, implementation, and revision of policies and procedures specific to the dispensary.
- Review and address dispensary errors, ensuring corrective actions are taken and progress reported to the Dispensary Manager.
- Participate in cross-site meetings to promote standardized practices across locations.
Qualifications
Essential:
- NVQ Level 3 with accredited knowledge in Pharmaceutical Science or equivalent.
- Significant post-registration experience relevant to hospital pharmacy practice with verified competencies.
- Registered as a pharmacy technician with the General Pharmaceutical Council (GPhC).
- Accredited Checking Pharmacy Technician (ACPT) qualification (or to be obtained within 12 months of starting the role).
