Position Overview

We are pleased to announce a rewarding opportunity for a Medication Processing Specialist to collaborate closely with Pharmacists and Pharmacy Technicians within our organization to manage repeat medication requests in accordance with established protocols.

The successful candidate will serve as the primary contact for addressing medication-related inquiries, escalating issues to appropriate members of the clinical or medicines management teams as necessary. Building and nurturing strong relationships with local pharmacies and care facilities will be a key aspect of this role. Additionally, the post holder will work alongside the medicines management team to optimize prescribing costs by minimizing medication waste.

Key Responsibilities

- Efficiently process repeat medication requests daily, ensuring adherence to established protocols.

- Conduct regular monitoring of medications that require oversight to mitigate the risk of adverse reactions.

- Verify that all current medications possess the necessary and up-to-date authorizations.

- Advocate for cost-effective prescribing practices by promoting the use of generic medications when suitable and encouraging adherence to local formulary guidelines.

- Address medication inquiries from a diverse range of healthcare professionals, including General Practitioners, nursing staff, community pharmacists, and administrative personnel.

- Execute searches and respond to drug alerts promptly.

- Coordinate with pharmacies regarding monthly medication management services.

- Act as the initial point of contact for managing email and telephone inquiries.

- Assist the Primary Care Network team in conducting audits aimed at enhancing patient outcomes.
