Communication Support Specialist

Focus on Speech, Language, and Communication Needs

Our educational institutions are increasingly in need of dedicated support within the classroom environment. We are seeking a qualified professional who can deliver effective Speech, Language, and Communication (SLCN) assistance in a mainstream Primary educational setting.

  • Hours: Full-time 8:30am – 3:30pm
  • Pay: £15
  • Location: Hyndburn

The successful candidate will be expected to:

Collaborate with the Class Teacher and SENCO to provide tailored support for students during instructional periods.

Facilitate speech, language, and communication interventions either individually or in small groups.

Establish a strong, positive rapport with students and their families, promoting a collaborative approach.

Utilize alternative communication strategies and demonstrate flexibility in methods.

Apply appropriate behavioral strategies while maintaining a composed demeanor.

Exhibit genuine empathy, patience, and a commitment to supporting children with Social, Emotional, and Mental Health (SEMH) needs.

Maintain a positive and solution-oriented mindset, ensuring that each child can reach their full potential.

Possess a solid understanding of various special educational needs.

Be dedicated to making a meaningful impact on the educational experiences of children.

Qualifications:

Experience in supporting children or young adults with speech difficulties or additional communication requirements is essential.

A strong understanding of alternative communication methods is required.

Confidence and experience in managing challenging behaviors are necessary.

A Level 2 or Level 3 Teaching Assistant qualification is preferred.

An Enhanced Child DBS on the Update Service is mandatory.

A comprehensive understanding of Child Safeguarding principles is crucial.

All pay rates quoted will include 12.07% statutory holiday pay. This position is temporary, with the possibility of transitioning to a permanent role in the future.

We conduct safeguarding checks on all personnel in accordance with DfE statutory guidance 'Keeping Children Safe in Education', which may include an online search as part of our due diligence on shortlisted candidates.
