Transport Operations Planning Lead

Position Overview: In this pivotal role, you will report directly to the Group Logistics Director, overseeing the daily coordination of customer shipments and internal inventory transfers. Your focus will be on enhancing customer satisfaction while ensuring exceptional service levels.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Collaborate with Barrett Steel Drivers and various sites within our extensive UK network to create seamless and effective transport plans that our drivers and logistics teams can execute.
  • Play a crucial role in the safe, efficient, and effective management of transport operations, fostering a culture of safety and inclusivity while achieving results.
  • Design, develop, and implement optimal transport strategies across the Barrett Steel Group Network, addressing all customer and operational needs.
  • Enhance inter-depot movements to maximize fleet utilization.
  • Ensure compliance with Working Time Directive regulations and all relevant transport legislation.
  • Manage customer locations and pertinent information to support network planning, including delivery windows, vehicle restrictions, and delivery point specifications.
  • Coordinate loads with subcontractors and negotiate rates as necessary.

Collaboration and Efficiency: Leverage the broader Barrett Steel Group network, working alongside other depots to ensure planning is conducted in the most efficient and effective manner.

Customer Engagement: Handle customer orders and integrate them into a streamlined plan, minimizing empty runs and maximizing profitability while adhering to agreed-upon KPI targets.
