Position Overview
In this pivotal role, reporting directly to the Group Logistics Director, you will oversee the daily coordination of customer shipments and internal inventory transfers, striving to enhance customer satisfaction while upholding exceptional service standards.
Key Responsibilities
Collaborate with Barrett Steel Drivers and various locations within our extensive UK network to develop seamless and effective logistics plans that our drivers and transport teams can implement. You will play a crucial role in ensuring the safe, efficient, and effective operation of the transport system, fostering a culture of safety and inclusivity while achieving results.
Specific Duties Include:
- Design, construct, and execute optimal transport strategies across the Barrett Steel Group Network, addressing all customer and operational needs.
- Enhance and streamline inter-depot movements, ensuring maximum fleet utilization.
- Oversee compliance with Working Time Directive regulations and all relevant transport legislation.
- Manage customer locations and pertinent information to facilitate Network Planning (including delivery windows, vehicle restrictions, and delivery point specifications).
- Coordinate loads with subcontractors and negotiate rates as necessary.
- Leverage the broader Barrett Steel Group network, collaborating with other depots to ensure efficient and effective planning.
- Analyze vehicle and associated cost/revenue reports and possess the capability to generate them.
- Establish strong working relationships with stakeholders.
- Communicate efficiencies and plans to site management teams.
- Handle customer orders and integrate them into an efficient logistics plan, minimizing empty runs and maximizing profitability while meeting agreed-upon KPI targets.

Essential Qualifications:
Experience in a multi-site transport planning role, with a background in a busy transport office environment.
- In-depth knowledge of Drivers' Hours, Tachograph, and Working Time Directive legislation, along with all Health & Safety standards.
- Strong geographical awareness of the UK.
- Solid educational background and proficiency in IT.
- Ability to analyze data to develop optimized transport planning solutions.
A proactive, positive attitude with the initiative to continually reassess the transport plan, ensuring it remains efficient and achievable while maintaining targeted vehicle earnings and customer service.
