Job Overview

We are seeking an experienced Colorectal Nurse Specialist to join our team at Whittington Health NHS Trust. The successful candidate will be responsible for assessing patients referred to the colorectal rapid access pathway and ensuring they receive the most appropriate investigation as soon as possible.

Main Duties

The post holder will work alongside the established colorectal STT nurse as part of the colorectal team to continue to assess patients referred on the suspected colorectal cancer pathway. Key responsibilities include:

  • Conducting telephone and face-to-face triage assessments
  • Booking appropriate tests based on patients' symptoms and fitness
  • Providing patient information and booking outpatient appointments for those unsuitable for STT
  • Developing and implementing the 'Straight to Test Service' for the 2-week cancer targets
  • Setting up and running telephone assessment clinics for target referrals
  • Running nurse-led clinics for holistic needs assessments and remote clinics for cancer surveillance patients
Person Specification

The ideal candidate will have:

  • First-level RGN registration
  • Education to degree level or working towards
  • Relevant post-registration qualifications in oncology/palliative care
  • Advanced communication skills training
