About the Role

Herrington Carmichael LLP is seeking a highly skilled Compliance and Risk Manager to join our team. As a key member of our organization, you will play a vital role in ensuring our firm adheres to all relevant laws, regulations, and internal policies, minimizing risk and maintaining our reputation for excellence.

Key Responsibilities
  • Compliance Function Management: Manage and run the operational activities of the firm's internal compliance function, including setting plans and objectives, playing an active role in strategy, and evaluating risk levels.
  • Policies and Procedures: Oversee and manage policies, systems, and controls related to compliance, promptly reporting breaches to regulatory bodies.
  • Compliance Training and Awareness: Deliver effective risk and compliance training as needed, ensuring all staff are aware of their compliance responsibilities.
  • Regulatory Compliance: Stay updated on relevant regulations and internal policies, including money laundering laws, GDPR, SRA Handbook, client service standards, anti-bribery measures, conflicts of interest, and client due diligence.
  • Audit and Compliance: Conduct audits to ensure the firm remains compliant with statutory and regulatory requirements.
  • Team Management: Manage and develop the compliance team, ensuring they have the necessary skills and resources to perform their duties effectively.
Requirements
  • A minimum of 5 years previous compliance experience within a law firm.
  • Strong communication and leadership skills, capable of influencing and building relationships across all levels.
  • A pedigree in being involved in and influencing strategy.
  • Ability to work with Partners and Management Committee to resolve client conflicts effectively.
  • Commitment to maintaining the highest professional standards to minimize risk.
  • Proficiency in IT, organization, and maintaining confidentiality.
  • Skill in balancing commercial interests with compliance requirements.
  • Ability to handle confidential matters with discretion and tact.
