Position: Site Manager


VGC Energy, a division of VGC Group Limited, is actively seeking a Site Manager to oversee various contracts throughout the UK.


As a Site Manager, you will play a pivotal role within our Operational Team, ensuring the effective execution of Overhead Line Projects.

These initiatives may encompass the comprehensive refurbishment of existing overhead power lines as well as the establishment and construction of new lines, which are vital for maintaining energy security across the UK.

The projects currently underway span multiple regions of England.

Site Manager – Key Responsibilities

  • Oversee on-site project delivery across a range of projects varying in scale, complexity, and duration, while managing the technical components of the OHL projects.
  • Supervise daily SHEQ (Safety, Health, Environment, and Quality) management involving staff and subcontractors, report SHEQ incidents, and conduct necessary investigations in line with internal protocols and client requirements.
  • Develop and maintain project-specific documentation, including Construction Phase Plans, Quality Plans, and Emergency Plans. Prepare Method Statements, Work Instructions, and Risk Assessments related to the work, and review submissions from subcontractors.
  • Provide technical assistance and productivity guidelines to the Bids department during the tendering process, ensuring safe and efficient delivery solutions.
  • Collaborate with the Design department on all technical aspects of construction, preparing material requirements and schedules for the Procurement department.
  • Manage supervisory resources assigned to projects, including Engineers and General Foremen, ensuring they are well-informed of their responsibilities throughout the project lifecycle.
  • Plan, coordinate, and manage necessary resources (labour, plant, and materials) to complete tasks efficiently and in compliance with regulations, regularly monitoring project progress and productivity, and reporting updates to the Project Manager or Project Planner.
  • Ensure adequate oversight of all subcontractors, including those involved in scaffolding, temporary roadways, underground work, civil works, access, accommodation, and security.
  • Provide daily management and support to reporting staff, including timely input and approval of timesheets and expenses, addressing personnel issues with the assistance of the Human Resources department.
  • Promote company values and standards, demonstrating behaviour aligned with the company's ethos.
  • Manage and coordinate client-specific safety documentation requirements, such as permits and certificates.
  • Chair weekly site meetings with staff and subcontractors.

Compliance and Standards:

  • Adhere to and contribute to the implementation of the company's certification standards, including OHSAS 18001, ISO 9001, and ISO 14001, by complying with H&S Policy, Quality Policy, and Environmental Policy.
  • Operate within established company policies and procedures, ensuring to exhibit safety, integrity, and commitment at all times.
  • Carry out additional duties as necessary to meet the evolving needs of the business and customer requirements.

Site Manager – Qualifications

  • Extensive knowledge of construction methodologies within the electricity transmission sector.
  • Competency in managing OHL projects ranging from 132kV to 400kV.
  • Familiarity with current legislation related to health, safety, and the environment.
  • Effective communication skills, both verbal and written, with the ability to work within budget and adhere to project timelines.
  • Ability to collaborate within a team environment, including clients, designers, H&S advisers, site staff, quantity surveyors, and estimators.
  • Proficient in IT, particularly Microsoft Outlook, Word, Project, and Excel.
  • TWC qualification, NEBOSH Construction, Environmental Qualifications.
  • HSG47 certification.
  • Knowledge of Impressed Voltage training, CDM Regulations, Waste Management, and PCSM.
