Health and Safety Manager

About the Role
National Highways is seeking a Health and Safety Manager to join our Safety, Engineering & Standards (SES) team on a permanent basis. The successful candidate will support the management of National Highways Health, Safety and Wellbeing Management system and contribute to the wider team to drive continual improvement.
Key Responsibilities
- Ensure consistency and quality of content of Health, Safety and Wellbeing Management System to align with other relevant National Highways policies and procedures.
- Ensure the Health, Safety and Wellbeing Management System is useable and well used by all who need it.
- Provide technical advice regarding the content of the Health, Safety and Wellbeing Management System.
- Manage communication, both formal and informal, of revisions, amendments, and updates to Health, Safety and Wellbeing Management System.
- Ensure the Health, Safety and Wellbeing Management System aligns with National Highways key risks and business needs.
- Manage the Health, Safety and Wellbeing Management System to user/stakeholder expectations.
- Champion document control, challenging 'local' solutions.
Requirements
- NEBOSH Diploma or equivalent health and safety qualification.
- Applied knowledge and experience of UK H&S Legislation – maintaining awareness of current and proposed future legislative requirements / familiar with and or working knowledge of HSG 65 and ISO45001.
- Practical experience in the creation, implementation, revision of management arrangements and systems.
- Applied knowledge of auditing of management arrangements (desirable).
- Ability to prioritise and work to critical timescales.
- Ability to communicate and influence effectively at all organisational levels (including Senior Managers) and across all disciplines, both internal and with external organisations.
