Senior SQL Database Administrator

Location: Congleton

This is a hybrid position, allowing for remote work 2 to 3 days per week. Candidates should be within a reasonable commuting distance from the Congleton office.

Overview:

As a vital member of a small yet efficient IT team, you will support a 24/7 operational environment in both manufacturing and office settings. Your primary responsibility will be to deliver a dependable database administration service that upholds the integrity and availability of all IT systems in accordance with business requirements, while strictly adhering to established guidelines.

Key Responsibilities:

The Senior SQL Database Administrator will manage the design, implementation, configuration, maintenance, and performance of critical SQL Server systems. You will also investigate and implement innovative database solutions to provide additional business advantages. This role demands hands-on involvement, requiring strong technical expertise along with excellent interpersonal and communication skills.

In this position, you will play a crucial role in planning and executing database upgrades, migrations, and expansions to accommodate the organization's growth and evolving data requirements. Additionally, you will oversee the database infrastructure, ensuring data security, integrity, and availability while optimizing performance. A comprehensive understanding of database management systems, data modeling, and database security is essential, along with the ability to collaborate effectively with other IT teams and business stakeholders to achieve strategic goals.

Your Contributions Will Include:

  • Managing SQL Server databases across various product lifecycle environments, from development to critical production systems.
  • Exploring, implementing, and maintaining alternative database systems to facilitate business transformation.
  • Configuring and maintaining database servers and processes, including monitoring system health and performance to ensure optimal levels of performance, availability, and security.
  • Applying data modeling techniques to ensure that development and implementation efforts meet integration and performance standards.
  • Independently analyzing, troubleshooting, and resolving issues in real-time, providing comprehensive problem resolution.
  • Refining and automating routine processes, tracking issues, and documenting changes.
  • Assisting developers with complex query optimization and schema refinement.
  • Conducting scheduled maintenance and supporting release deployment activities outside of regular hours.
  • Adhering to stringent cybersecurity protocols in all aspects of work.
  • Sharing domain knowledge and technical expertise, providing mentorship and cross-training to peers and team members.

Required Qualifications:

  • Extensive experience in MS SQL Server Administration; MCTS, MCITP, and/or MVP certifications are advantageous.
  • Proficiency in Performance Tuning and Optimization (PTO), utilizing native monitoring and troubleshooting tools.
  • Experience with backup, restore, and recovery models (VEEAM experience is a plus).
  • Knowledge of High Availability (HA) and Disaster Recovery (DR) strategies for SQL Server.
  • Experience working with Windows Server environments.
  • A flexible, team-oriented approach with a proactive, solution-focused mindset.
  • Ability to independently organize and plan work in a dynamic environment.
  • Capacity to effectively manage multiple tasks and switch contexts between various activities and teams.
