About the Role

We are seeking a highly motivated and experienced Environmental Sustainability Officer to join our team at Islamic Help. As a key member of our organization, you will play a crucial role in developing and implementing our climate action strategy, advocating for environmental sustainability, and promoting eco-friendly practices within our organization and beyond.

Key Responsibilities
  • Climate Action Strategy Development: Collaborate with our Director of International Programmes & Partnerships and sustainability experts to develop and implement a comprehensive climate action strategy that aligns with our organizational goals.
  • Advocacy and Campaigning: Develop and oversee climate change advocacy campaigns and projects that promote environmental sustainability and raise awareness about the importance of climate action.
  • UN Agency Liaison: Establish and maintain relationships with relevant UN Agencies, attending forums, submitting reports, and ensuring Islamic Help's representation on relevant coordination platforms.
  • Programme Development: Work with our Director of International Programmes & Partnerships and sustainability experts to develop and manage the Children's Eco Village programme in Tanzania, including site management, child-focused programmes, budgeting, and fundraising.
  • Fundraising and Partnerships: Identify and develop fundraising strategies in consultation with our team to support the Children's Eco Village programme and its projects, as well as establish partnerships with local, national, and international organizations to advance our climate action goals.
  • Volunteering and Community Engagement: Develop a climate action volunteering programme to engage more people in our environmental projects, campaigns, and advocacy efforts.
  • Policy Development and Implementation: Develop and lead the implementation of Islamic Help's environmental policy, promoting green and sustainable practices within our headquarters and international offices.
  • Representation and Networking: Represent Islamic Help at climate events and conferences, establishing and maintaining relationships with key stakeholders and partners.
Requirements
  • Education: A degree in international development-related studies (with an environmental-focused module) or environmental sciences.
  • Experience: Proven experience in environmental sustainability, climate action, and programme management, with a strong track record of developing and implementing successful strategies and projects.
  • Skills: Excellent communication, project management, and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work effectively in a fast-paced environment and travel to various locations as required.
  • Language: Fluency in English, with the ability to communicate effectively in other languages an asset.
