Nature Recovery Project Officer

As a vital member of our internal Consultancy Service within the Northern Ireland division of the National Trust, you will contribute to a Department of Agriculture, Environment & Rural Affairs (DAERA) funded initiative aimed at enhancing nature recovery across various countryside locations.

Our ambitious goals focus on advancing comprehensive and cohesive nature conservation efforts as part of our Land, Outdoors and Nature (LON) Programme. Collaborating closely with our Nature Conservation Adviser and countryside teams, you will play a key role in coordinating and executing this initiative, which encompasses habitat management, conservation assessment, training, and promoting sustainable access. Your responsibilities will include engaging with our countryside teams to document management strategies, report on project outcomes, process grant applications, and liaise with DAERA.

Contract/Duration: This position is a 6-month contract.

Salary: £30,966 per annum (actual salary will be pro-rata for the 6-month contract).



Work Environment

The National Trust manages a diverse and captivating array of properties and estates. You will have the chance to engage with a remarkable selection of estates and countryside sites throughout Northern Ireland, from the grandeur of Crom and Castle Ward estates to the breathtaking landscapes of the North Coast and Fermanagh. This role offers an exciting opportunity to make a meaningful impact on nature conservation while collaborating with a dedicated team of multi-disciplinary consultants and property countryside teams.

Your primary office location will be at Rowallane Garden, Saintfield. While travel across Northern Ireland may be necessary, we encourage the use of video conferencing and virtual meetings whenever feasible.



Key Responsibilities

The Nature Recovery Project Officer is tasked with delivering project support and expertise in our DAERA-funded nature recovery initiatives. This project involves habitat management, conservation monitoring, training, and sustainable access. You will assist in tracking nature conservation objectives within the programme. Key responsibilities include:

  • Collaborating with countryside teams and relevant consultants to document management strategies and report on project delivery.
  • Monitoring project expenditures, submitting quarterly grant claims, managing risks, and maintaining communication with DAERA.
  • Preparing for Project Board meetings and liaising regularly with the Project Manager and Sponsor.
