Are you enthusiastic about engaging with children and young individuals outside of a traditional classroom environment? With the recent increase in funding for cycling safety training, we are expanding our team and seeking additional Cycling Safety Educators to join our initiative. We are looking for individuals who are passionate about cycling, enjoy outdoor activities, and are confident cyclists to deliver our cycling safety training program.

Role Overview

Throughout your tenure, we will provide comprehensive support to help you achieve certification as a qualified Cycle Instructor; upon qualification, you will earn a 1st4Sport Level 2 award in Instructing Cycle Training.

You will be contracted on an annualised hours basis, with expectations to optimize your schedule (Monday – Friday) during school terms. The earliest start time is 08:45 am, and the latest finish time is 03:30 pm to align with school hours.

Your responsibilities will include promoting safe and active travel initiatives by conducting a series of Bikeability Cycle Training sessions for school-aged children. This role involves delivering all three levels of Bikeability Training in both on-road and off-road settings, enhancing the riders' skills and confidence to navigate more complex traffic environments. The training adheres to a recognized national delivery standard.

This position is home-based, requiring you to manage your own workload and the assigned schools. You will need to actively promote your training services and availability to schools to ensure a comprehensive schedule of Bikeability training is organized and executed.

As part of your duties, you will need to transport your bicycle and all necessary equipment to various training locations, necessitating access to a vehicle, a valid driving license, and appropriate business insurance for work-related travel.

We will supply personal protective equipment, which must be utilized as directed while performing your duties.

The nature of this role may require you to work outside of standard hours, so flexibility in your work schedule is essential. Some tasks may need to be completed on short notice, and your actual working hours may vary daily to meet service demands.

Occasionally, you will be required to attend training sessions, conferences, seminars, or other meetings as dictated by your professional development needs and the service's requirements, demonstrating a commitment to ongoing professional growth.

A DBS enhanced check for a regulated activity is mandatory for this position.

  • The 1st4sport Level 2 Award in Instructing Cycle Training or a willingness to complete this four-day training course; Math and English (GCSE Grade C or equivalent).
  • Proficiency in IT and experience with Microsoft Office applications (Word, Excel, Email).
  • Experience working with children in an advisory, teaching, coaching, or instructing capacity; ability to communicate effectively with children, educators, school personnel, and parents while maintaining a professional and diplomatic demeanor.
  • A regular and skilled cyclist with a passion for cycling; capable of riding in various traffic conditions to Bikeability Level 3 standards; able to inspire youth to adopt more sustainable transportation choices.
  • Self-motivated, capable of working independently and as part of a team; organized and methodical; reliable with strong interpersonal skills; able to prioritize tasks and meet deadlines while maintaining attention to detail.

Additionally, you should demonstrate an understanding of and commitment to equality, diversity, and inclusion.

We are open to reasonable adjustments for applicants with disabilities.
