Position Overview
We are currently seeking a (Senior) Mechanical Technician, also referred to as a (Senior) Vacuum Technician, to engage in the construction, conditioning, testing, commissioning, installation, and upkeep of Diamond vacuum systems and associated apparatus.
This position will contribute significantly to our extensive facility enhancement project, known as Diamond-II, aimed at producing an even more exceptional light source with increased energy output.
You will operate within a clean assembly environment characterized by ultra-high vacuum (UHV) standards, conducting inspections and acceptance testing of vacuum components while providing guidance on appropriate procedures and techniques for UHV installations and evaluations.
Key Responsibilities include:
- Preparing workspaces and equipment for vacuum installations.
- Offering advice on the procurement and acquisition of necessary equipment.
- Implementing quality control measures and procedures pertinent to the Diamond project.
- Assisting with laboratory tests related to vacuum equipment and projects.
- Monitoring and addressing equipment maintenance needs.
Candidates will be evaluated for either grade 5 or 6 based on their skills, experience, and qualifications.
At the senior level, you will also oversee small teams engaged in vacuum installation and maintenance tasks, as well as participate in the planning and preparation of work, including resource allocation for system installations.
Candidate Profile
The ideal candidate will possess experience as a Technician or Engineer in a high-tech environment, with a background in the assembly and operation of scientific vacuum equipment.
To qualify for the senior position, candidates should ideally have completed a recognized Engineering Apprenticeship or hold an Engineering Degree, or demonstrate equivalent practical experience.
Familiarity or experience in the following areas will be advantageous:
- Leak detection systems.
- Residual Gas Analyzers.
- Quality Assurance Systems.
- Work and resource management.
- Safe operational practices.
- Utilizing cranes, slings, and forklifts for heavy lifting.
- Testing, troubleshooting, and maintaining electro-mechanical systems.
- Reading and interpreting mechanical schematics.
