Located at the esteemed Diamond Light Source, we are presently seeking a Mechanical Beamline Technician/Senior Mechanical Beamline Technician to join our team of experts.
Job Overview
Our esteemed facility, a world-renowned hub for cutting-edge research, offers a unique opportunity for a talented individual to support scientists and engineers in maintaining and upgrading beamline equipment.
Key Responsibilities
- Maintain and upgrade existing equipment on the beamline, collaborating with scientists and engineers to design and install new components.
- Assist users in conducting experiments, fabricate small equipment items, and integrate ancillary equipment into experimental areas.
- Ensure all beamline work is conducted in a safe and controlled environment, with proper integration and installation of equipment.
- Collaborate with other staff members from the Crystallography group to support their operations.
About the Role
As a Mechanical Beamline Technician/Senior Mechanical Beamline Technician, you will be working on our state-of-the-art Beamline I19, which utilizes an intense X-ray beam to study the intricate structural properties of materials relevant to chemistry, industry, and pharmaceutical compounds.
Salary and Benefits
We offer a competitive salary range of £35,000 - £45,000, depending on experience, with an excellent benefits package, including 26 days annual leave, Christmas closure, public holidays, and flexible working hours.
About You
Applicants should hold a relevant ONC or GNVQ level 2 qualification, although those with equivalent work experience will also be considered.
Requirements
- Proven experience in cryogenics, precision mechanics, ultra-high vacuum and high-vacuum, specialist gases, and cooling water.
- Familiarity with quality assurance procedures, work planning, and safe systems of work.
- For the Senior position, experience with chilled water, compressed air, domestic water, and line management is required.
