Job Summary

As a Tooling Engineer, you will be responsible for the design, development, and maintenance of tools and fixtures used in the production of aerospace components. This includes the creation of technical solutions to complex problems, the development of manufacturing process development and integration for production, and the implementation of Lean initiatives to improve production processes.

Key Responsibilities

  • Exemplify a Safety-First Mindset: Ensure compliance with GKN Aerospace's Health, Safety, and Environmental policies and standards.
  • Develop Technical Solutions: Create innovative solutions to complex problems within GKN Aerospace, our customers, and suppliers.
  • Deliver Technical Support: Provide technical support for manufacturing process development and integration for production.
  • Utilize Root Cause Analysis: Apply root cause analysis, preventative, and corrective action to reduce/eliminate non-conformances.
  • Maintain Positive Relationships: Foster positive, team relationships with internal and external customers, as well as co-workers.
  • Implement Lean Initiatives: Continuously improve production processes by implementing Lean initiatives.
  • Develop and Maintain Tools: Develop and maintain tools standard work and procedures.
  • Implement Tooling: Implement tooling from original concept through to production, designing it for high process capability using the GKN standard Zero Defect Manufacturing (ZDM) tool suite.
  • Manage Tool Fabrication: Manage tool fabrication quotes, tooling input for new product quotes, tooling configuration changes that involve cost estimation, schedule coordination, and implementation.
  • Develop Blueprints: Develop full blueprints sets according to ANSI Y14.5 and GD&T, ensuring the parts or tooling designs are feasible.
  • Resolve Tooling Issues: Resolve or mitigate any tooling issues (Technical, Timing, or Cost).
  • Deliver Technical Trainings: Create and deliver technical trainings for Production Personnel on tool usage instructions.
  • Develop NC Programming Solutions: Develop NC programming solutions for high process capability using the GKN standard Zero Defect Manufacturing (ZDM) tool suite.

Job Qualifications

  • Education: Possess at least a Bachelor's Degree/Post Graduate Diploma/Professional Degree in Engineering (Mechanical), Engineering (Aviation/Aeronautics), Engineering (Metal Fabrication/Tool & Die/Industrial Engineering).
  • Experience: Minimum of 3 years of experience in tools/fixtures design and fabrication or precision engineering industry.
  • Knowledge: Working knowledge of quality system models such as ANSI, GD&T, and ISO.
  • Design Software: Competent in design software (Solidworks, AutoCAD, NX Unigraphic, or Inventor).
  • Tools/Fixtures Fabrication: Experience in tools/fixtures fabrication process (CADCAM, CNC Programming, or Molding).
  • Language: Fluent in English language, both written and spoken.
  • Global Technical Community: Participates in activities within a global technical community and understanding of the interface with broader business functions.
  • Leadership and Teamwork: Develops working relationships through team work, influencing, leadership, coaching, and personal drive to succeed.
  • ME Academy: For internal candidates, the foundation of the ME Academy must be completed and training initiated to become a Zero Defect Practitioner and 6σ Green Belt. External candidates to demonstrate equivalent capability in problem-solving and process control.
