Job Summary

As a Tooling Engineer, you will be responsible for the design, development, and maintenance of tools and fixtures that support our manufacturing processes. This role requires a strong understanding of engineering principles, quality systems, and manufacturing processes.

Key Responsibilities

  • Ensure Compliance with Quality Standards
    • Exemplify a safety-first mindset and ensure compliance with GKN Aerospace's Health, Safety, and Environmental policies and standards.
  • Develop Technical Solutions
    • Responsible for the development of technical solutions to complex problems within GKN Aerospace, our customers, and suppliers.
  • Support Manufacturing Process Development
    • Deliver technical support for manufacturing process development and integration for production.
  • Root Cause Analysis and Continuous Improvement
    • Utilize root cause analysis, preventative, and corrective action to reduce/eliminate non-conformances.
  • Team Collaboration and Communication
    • Maintain positive, team relationships with internal and external customers, as well as co-workers.
  • Lean Initiatives and Process Improvement
    • Continuously improve production processes by implementing Lean initiatives.
  • Tooling Design and Development
    • Accountable for developing and maintaining tools standard work and procedures.
  • Tooling Implementation
    • The implementation of tooling, from original concept through to production. Design this tooling for high degree of process capability utilizing the GKN standard Zero Defect Manufacturing (ZDM) tool suite to demonstrate as such.
  • Tool Fabrication and Configuration
    • Accountable for tool fabrication quotes, tooling input for new product quotes, tooling configuration changes that involve cost estimation, schedule coordination, and implementation.
  • Design and Development of Blueprints
    • Accountable to develop full blue prints sets according to ANSI Y14.5 and GD&T and ensure the parts or tooling designs are feasible.
  • Tooling Issue Resolution
    • Accountable to resolve or mitigate any tooling issues (Technical, Timing or Cost).
  • Technical Training and Development
    • Create and deliver technical trainings for Production Personnel on tool usage instructions.
  • NC Programming and Tool Development
    • Responsible for the development of NC Programming solutions for high degree of process capability utilizing the GKN standard Zero Defect Manufacturing (ZDM) tool suite to demonstrate as such.

Job Qualifications

  • Education and Experience
    • Candidate must possess at least a Bachelor's Degree/Post Graduate Diploma/Professional Degree in Engineering (Mechanical), Engineering (Aviation/Aeronautics), Engineering (Metal Fabrication/Tool & Die/Industrial Engineering)
  • Technical Skills
    • Minimum of 3 years of experience in tools/fixtures design and fabrication or precision engineering industry.
  • Quality System Knowledge
    • Working knowledge of quality system models such as ANSI, GD&T and ISO.
  • Design Software Proficiency
    • Competent in design software (Solidworks, AutoCAD, NX Unigraphic or Inventor).
  • Tools and Fixtures Fabrication
    • Experience in tools/fixtures fabrication process (CADCAM, CNC Programming or Molding).
  • Language Skills
    • Fluent in English language, both written and spoken.
  • Global Technical Community
    • Participates in activities within a global technical community and understanding of the interface with broader business functions
  • Leadership and Teamwork
    • Develops working relationships through team work, influencing, leadership, coaching and personal drive to succeed.
  • ME Academy and Zero Defect Practitioner
    • For internal candidates, the foundation of the ME Academy must be completed and training initiated to become a Zero Defect Practitioner and 6σ Green Belt. External candidates to demonstrate equivalent capability in problem solving and process control
