Role Overview
This position requires candidates to achieve vetting to SC level through the UK Government, typically necessitating five years of residency in the UK.
The role is primarily based at the Operational Technology Security Testing Centre, with potential travel to various SSE Transmission locations for evaluation and research activities.
Location: Flexible within the operational network.
Compensation: £58,630 - £68,098 along with a comprehensive benefits package to support your family, financial needs, and overall wellbeing.

The Operational Technology (OT) Security Testing Centre serves as a specialized hub established by SSE Enterprise to enable the assessment and cyber assurance of broader Transmission OT equipment and systems.
As a Lead OT Engineer - Evaluation, you will engage in the core functions of this facility. Your responsibilities will include testing operational technology systems and devising secure device configurations and processes to uphold the cybersecurity of our operational technology frameworks, while collaborating with OT Field Engineers at various substations.
Opportunities for training and professional development will be available, including attendance at ICS/Cybersecurity conferences throughout the year.
Key Responsibilities:
- Conduct security assessments on OT devices and formulate device hardening configurations and protocols.
- Ensure OT system configurations align with security standards and verify vendor compliance with SSE security protocols.
- Commission, maintain, and operate site security appliances.
- Engage in project activities and collaborate with the broader OT and engineering teams.
- Contribute to the formulation of security processes and procedures, while evaluating existing methods and suggesting enhancements.
Qualifications:
To be a suitable candidate, we prefer you to possess:
- Experience in OT/IT cybersecurity, with a solid understanding of the unique challenges within a substation operational technology environment and the implementation of cybersecurity measures.
- Familiarity with substation equipment configuration and evaluation.
- A minimum of HNC qualification in a relevant engineering or computing discipline, with a professional security management certification, ideally with an OT focus, such as Global Industrial Cyber Security Professional (GICSP) or equivalent credentials.
- A strong grasp of network protocols and the security characteristics and operations of Windows/Linux operating systems.
- Experience with core scanning and analysis tools.
