About the Role

We are seeking a highly motivated and experienced Respiratory Care Specialist to join our team at University Hospitals of Morecambe Bay NHS Trust. As a key member of our Community Respiratory Service, you will play a vital role in delivering high-quality care to patients with chronic respiratory diseases.

Job Summary

The successful candidate will work closely with our specialist respiratory multidisciplinary team to deliver a home-based pulmonary rehabilitation service to patients across Morecambe Bay. You will be responsible for supporting registered clinicians with holistic patient assessments, including exercise testing, functional assessment, clinical observations, and symptom questionnaires.

Main Duties and Responsibilities
  • Support registered clinicians with patient assessments and develop personalized care plans.
  • Visit patients in their homes to deliver patient education, treatment, and rehabilitation programs under the remote supervision of physiotherapy, occupational therapy, or nurse colleagues.
  • Measure and install small items of occupational therapy equipment.
  • Provide brief intervention smoking cessation and motivational interviewing support.
  • Assess and correct inhaler and exercise technique.
  • Record clinical consultations and patient data on electronic medical records.
  • Travel independently across Morecambe Bay to visit patients in their homes and attend service meetings and training sessions.
Requirements

To be successful in this role, you will need:

  • A Foundation Degree in Health and Social Care or equivalent qualification.
  • Full UK driving license or ability to travel independently to areas not served by public transport.
  • Computer skills relevant to the role, including electronic patient records and EMIS.
  • Literacy skills at level 2 or above (GCSE or equivalent).
