Overview: The emergence of satellite mega-constellations in low Earth orbit is creating unprecedented opportunities for comprehensive global observation of our planet. This position as a Research Associate in Mega-Constellation Space Physics focuses on leveraging these mega-constellations to enhance our understanding of the solar wind and its interactions with the magnetosphere and ionosphere, ultimately contributing to advancements in space weather science and operational capabilities.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Conduct innovative research to assess how satellite mega-constellations can significantly enhance existing monitoring capabilities.
  • Develop and implement data assimilation techniques for magnetic field observations from mega-constellations, validating these methods through simulations of the global magnetosphere.
  • Apply findings to data obtained from Eutelsat OneWeb's Gen1 constellation, aiming to set new standards in space weather operations and research.

Qualifications:

  • A PhD in space physics or a related field, or equivalent experience in research, industry, or commercial settings.
  • In-depth knowledge of the solar wind and its interactions with the magnetosphere and ionosphere.
  • Hands-on experience with a variety of methodologies, including satellite data analysis, computational simulations, and theoretical modeling.
