Job Summary

St John's College University of Cambridge is seeking a highly skilled and experienced Functions Supervisor to join its Catering and Hospitality team. The successful candidate will be responsible for ensuring the smooth operation of all public and private dining rooms and associated areas in terms of food service, staff supervision, and cleaning.

Key Responsibilities

  • Supervise and coordinate the preparation and service of food and beverages in a fast-paced and dynamic environment.
  • Ensure that all food safety and hygiene standards are met, and that the kitchen and dining areas are maintained to a high standard of cleanliness.
  • Manage and motivate a team of staff to deliver exceptional customer service and to meet the College's standards.
  • Develop and implement effective procedures for managing food inventory, supplies, and equipment.
  • Collaborate with the Catering and Hospitality team to plan and execute events, menus, and promotions.

Requirements

  • Proven experience in a similar role, preferably in a high-end hospitality or catering environment.
  • Strong knowledge of food safety and hygiene practices, including HACCP principles and COSHH regulations.
  • Excellent leadership and communication skills, with the ability to motivate and manage a team.
  • Ability to work flexibly and to adapt to changing priorities and deadlines.
  • High level of discretion and confidentiality, with the ability to handle sensitive information.
