Position Overview

We are excited to announce an opportunity to become a vital member of our exceptional Speech and Language Therapy Team, primarily serving the Essex region, with a focus on Mid and South Essex. We are seeking a Band 5 Speech and Language Practitioner to engage in diverse clinical domains, encompassing speech, language, social communication, complex needs, and communication aids. The selected candidate will be empowered to work autonomously while providing therapy to children and young individuals in various environments.

Key Responsibilities

The successful candidate will possess a recognized Speech and Language Therapy degree and hold registration with HCPC/RCSLT. You will be supported in your independent practice as well as in teamwork. Experience in working with children facing speech, language, and communication challenges is essential, including any relevant student placements. Additionally, you will provide training (either in-person or virtually) to educational staff and parents as needed.

Your role will involve collaborating with assistants and associate practitioners, contributing to discussions regarding local clinical guidelines, protocols, and care packages, and participating in team meetings across disciplines.

This position requires active engagement with children and their families, liaising with educational staff, and contributing to Educational Health and Care Plans. A valid UK driver's license is necessary as travel to various locations within Essex is part of the role.

Job Duties

Responsibilities, Duties, and Key Relationships include:

Operational or Strategic Responsibilities:

  • Deliver comprehensive speech, language, and communication therapy services to children and young adults, including assessment, differential diagnosis, clinical decision-making, and appropriate intervention based on best practices.
  • Provide training to nursery and school/college staff and parents as required.
  • Adhere to quality guidelines and participate in service monitoring and clinical audits.
  • Follow agreed administrative procedures, including the collection of statistical data.
  • Contribute to discussions on proposed local clinical guidelines, protocols, and care packages.
  • Develop skills for independent working with supervision.
  • Support assistants and associate practitioners, and contribute to the development of volunteers and students.
  • Fulfill statutory requirements towards other agencies, including the provision of complex written reports for statutory assessments.
  • Attend departmental team meetings and interdisciplinary/multidisciplinary meetings.

Person Specification

Essential Qualifications

  • Recognized Speech and Language Therapy Degree Qualification or equivalent.
  • Registered Member of the Royal College of Speech and Language Therapists.
  • Valid UK driver's license.

Desirable Qualifications

  • Experience working within a multidisciplinary team.
  • Training in therapy approaches such as PECS and Attention Autism.
  • Knowledge of resources to support children and young people with speech, language, and communication needs.
