Job Summary

The Commonwealth of Virginia is seeking a highly skilled and experienced Assistant Director for Sports Communication to join our team. This is a key role that will play a critical part in the success of our athletics programs.

Key Responsibilities
  • Develop and implement a comprehensive media relations strategy to promote our athletics programs and increase visibility and exposure.
  • Serve as the primary contact for media inquiries and provide timely and accurate information to the media.
  • Coordinate and produce game-day materials, including press releases, media guides, and game programs.
  • Develop and maintain relationships with local, regional, and national media outlets to secure coverage and exposure for our athletics programs.
  • Collaborate with the athletics administration and coaching staff to develop and implement a comprehensive marketing and promotion plan.
  • Supervise and manage a team of staff members to ensure the successful execution of media relations and communication efforts.
  • Stay up-to-date with the latest trends and technologies in media relations and communication to ensure the athletics department is at the forefront of innovation and best practices.
Requirements
  • Bachelor's degree in a related field, such as communications, public relations, or journalism.
  • Minimum of 2 years of experience in media relations and/or communications in a sports or athletics setting.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to effectively communicate with a variety of stakeholders, including media, coaches, and administrators.
  • Proficient in social media platforms and website content management systems.
  • Knowledge of NCAA rules and regulations.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and prioritize multiple tasks and deadlines.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Masters degree in a related field.
  • Experience in intercollegiate athletics media relations.
