Job Summary

The Commonwealth of Virginia is seeking a highly skilled and experienced Assistant Director for Sports Communication to join our team. This is a key role that will play a critical part in the success of our athletics programs.

Key Responsibilities
  • Develop and implement a comprehensive media relations strategy to promote our athletics programs and increase visibility and exposure.
  • Serve as the primary contact for media inquiries and provide timely and accurate information to the media.
  • Coordinate and execute media events, including press conferences, interviews, and game-day activities.
  • Develop and maintain relationships with local, regional, and national media outlets to secure coverage and exposure for our athletics programs.
  • Collaborate with the athletics administration and coaching staff to develop and implement a comprehensive communications plan.
  • Manage and maintain the athletics department's website, social media accounts, and other digital platforms.
  • Develop and implement a crisis communications plan to address any issues that may arise.
  • Supervise and mentor staff members to ensure they have the necessary skills and knowledge to perform their duties effectively.
Requirements
  • Bachelor's degree in Communications, Public Relations, or a related field.
  • Minimum of 2 years of experience in media relations or a related field.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced environment and prioritize multiple tasks and deadlines.
  • Knowledge of NCAA rules and regulations.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Masters degree in Communications, Public Relations, or a related field.
  • Experience working in intercollegiate athletics.
  • Knowledge of digital media platforms and social media marketing.
