About the Role

We are seeking an experienced administrative professional to join our busy Chemical Pathology team as a Bank Secretary. The successful candidate will provide administrative support to our team of clinical and managerial staff, working closely with laboratory staff to ensure the smooth operation of our specimen referral service.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide administrative support to the Chemical Pathology team, including data entry, typing letters, and maintaining accurate records.
  • Answer the main laboratory enquiry line, providing information to hospital staff, GPs, and patients on sampling conditions and specimen information.
  • Deal with patient enquiries, some of whom may be upset or agitated, and provide a high level of customer service.
  • Use the Laboratory Information System to update and extract patient information, including data entry, interpretation, and prioritization of request and result entry data.
  • Check invoices, record information onto the database, and maintain a filing system.
  • Generate lists of outstanding patient requests referred to other laboratories and chase up results in a timely manner to ensure target turnaround times are achieved.

Person Specification

  • Essential:
    • GCSE grade C/equivalent or above in literacy and numeracy
    • Computer literate in Microsoft Office packages
  • Desirable:
    • RSA Level three Speed typing qualification or demonstrable experience
    • NVQ in Administration level 3
    • Medical Secretary diploma or equivalent
