Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled and organized individual to join our Chemical Pathology team as a Bank Secretary. The successful candidate will provide administrative support to our team of clinical and managerial staff, ensuring the smooth operation of our specimen referral service.

Main Responsibilities
  • Provide administrative support to the Chemical Pathology team, including data entry, typing letters, and maintaining accurate records.
  • Answer laboratory enquiry lines, provide sampling conditions and specimen information, and give out authorized results.
  • Deal with patient enquiries, some of whom may be upset or agitated.
  • Use the Laboratory Information System to update and extract patient information, including data entry, interpretation, and prioritization of request and result entry data.
  • Check invoices, record information onto the database, photocopying, and maintaining a filing system.
  • Enter returned result data from other laboratories into the Laboratory Information System, ensuring reports are compliant with consultant requirements.
  • Generate lists of outstanding patient requests referred to other laboratories and chase up results in a timely manner to ensure target turnaround times are achieved.
Requirements
  • GCSE grade C/equivalent or above in literacy and numeracy.
  • Computer literate in Microsoft Office packages.
  • Appropriate experience in a hospital or office environment.
  • Accurate audio typing.
  • Understanding and previous experience in medical terminology.
