About the Role

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Principal Mechanical Engineer to lead our structural mechanics design activities on major nuclear projects. As a key member of our team, you will be responsible for ensuring the highest standards of quality and compliance with relevant codes, standards, and regulations.

Key Responsibilities
  • Project Leadership: Lead and manage structural mechanics design activities for nuclear projects, ensuring all designs meet the highest standards of quality and compliance with relevant codes, standards, and CDM regulations.
  • Advanced Finite Element Analysis: Perform advanced finite element analysis (FEA) on RC and steel structures, addressing seismic, impact, blast, and other load cases.
  • Design Documentation: Develop, review, and validate detailed design documents, specifications, and calculation reports.
  • Software Utilization: Utilise FEM software such as Code-Aster, Ansys, LS-Dyna, and others for design and analysis.
  • Team Collaboration: Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams, including international research institutes and laboratories, to integrate complex technical solutions.
  • Technical Guidance: Provide technical guidance and mentorship to a team of engineers and technical staff.
  • Client Liaison: Liaise with clients to provide technical updates, reports, and build strong professional relationships.
  • Project Management: Participate in project management duties, including monitoring budgets, schedules, and ensuring project deliverables meet quality standards.
  • Training and Development: Lead technical seminars and training sessions for the UK team on advanced FEA calculation to enhance team capabilities and knowledge sharing.
  • R&D Activities: Contribute to R&D activities to advance design methodologies and tools within the nuclear sector.
  • Nuclear Safety Culture: Uphold and promote nuclear safety culture within all project activities, ensuring adherence to safety protocols and procedures.
Requirements
  • Education: Bachelor's or Master's degree in Mechanical Engineering or related field.
  • Experience: Significant experience in structural mechanics design for nuclear projects.
  • Expertise: Expertise in advanced Finite Element Analysis using relevant software such as Code-Aster, Ansys, LS-Dyna, and others.
  • Technical Skills: Experience with BIM/CAD tools like Tekla Structure, HyperMesh, and AutoCAD.
  • Leadership: Proven experience in leading teams and managing complex projects.
  • Industry Knowledge: Strong understanding of nuclear industry standards and regulations.
  • Communication: Excellent communication, problem-solving, and client liaison skills.
  • Professional Development: Active involvement in professional associations and international conferences.
  • Chartership: Chartership status or actively working towards it.
