Job Title: Lead Mechanical Design and Analysis Engineer

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Lead Mechanical Design and Analysis Engineer to join our team at Holtec International. As a global leader in designing safe and secure clean energy solutions, we are committed to advancing our Small Modular Reactor (SMR) programme and building a talented team based in Bristol.

Job Summary:

The successful candidate will be responsible for overseeing and managing a team of mechanical design engineers responsible for the development of mechanical and structural components crucial to the SMR-300 plant. This role will encompass defining the approach to deliver the SMR-300 mechanical design, ensuring adherence to safety standards, supporting development of the safety case, and fostering a collaborative environment conducive to innovation.

Key Responsibilities:
  1. Provide line management and coordinate the team, being responsible for coaching and mentoring to develop the team and individuals in technical skills and personal skills enabling them to deliver.
  2. Manage and lead mechanical design activities, including CAD design, design for manufacturability, engineering analyses, and technical documentation.
  3. Prepare and deliver presentations to internal and external organizations, including nuclear regulators.
  4. Leading required design change management activity and where required working on design solutions through critical thinking, research, and collaboration with interdisciplinary teams and suppliers.
  5. Oversee the creation of technical documentation and ensure compliance with regulatory standards.
  6. Support the preparation of design deliverables and presentations, and effectively communicate design progress in stakeholder meetings.
  7. Facilitate the development of engineering and safety case requirements and documentation for nuclear systems and components.
  8. Actively engage in project-driven engineering teams, providing leadership and expertise in mechanical design.
Requirements:
  1. Bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering or related discipline.
  2. Proven experience in mechanical engineering design, including requirements capture, design solution, and technical report writing.
  3. Experience in design change management, configuration control and requirements management.
  4. Strong presentation and communication skills - able to present at multiple organisational levels and to external regulatory stakeholders.

Previous experience in the design and fabrication of products such as heat exchangers, piping valves, pumps, and ASME components in commercial nuclear or naval nuclear design would be an advantage.
