Position Overview

We are seeking a dedicated full-time Band 5 Surgical Care Specialist within our Elective Orthopaedic Theatres.

Are you a motivated individual with a commitment to patient safety and quality care? This role offers the chance to enhance your clinical expertise while developing link roles and career progression opportunities.

Your primary responsibility will be to uphold the highest standards of care and safety within the Elective Orthopaedic Theatres. Collaborating with multi-disciplinary teams, you will implement and sustain systems and processes that ensure compliance with established standards.

We provide ongoing orientation and mentorship support, along with continuous personal development opportunities.

Job Responsibilities

- Apply a holistic, patient-centered care approach, considering the unique clinical needs of each patient during their time in the theatre unit.

- Always prioritize the privacy and dignity of patients.

- Execute patient care and procedures in alignment with established Trust policies and standards.

- Reflect on clinical practices to evaluate and maintain high standards of patient care.

- Maintain accurate patient records in accordance with policy and guidelines.

- Operate within the Trust's Scope of Professional Practice as defined by the Directorate.

- Ensure the delivery of care adheres to the policies, procedures, guidelines, and practices of Nottingham University Hospitals NHS Trust.

- Comply with health and safety regulations and infection control policies, ensuring that staff, patients, and visitors are well-informed and advised. Maintain a clean and safe environment.

- Report all accidents and incidents in accordance with Trust policy.

- Engage in personal and professional development in line with statutory requirements, as well as knowledge and skills relevant to your area of work.

- Actively participate in the KSF & Theatre Personal Development Review process, including the creation of a personal profile and development plan.

Qualifications

Essential:

  • Current level one NMC registration or HCPC registration.

Desirable:

  • Evidence of Continuing Professional Development.

Analytical and Judgement Skills

Essential:

  • Ability to assess, plan, deliver, prioritize, and evaluate patient care. Recognize personal learning needs and demonstrate an understanding of the Theatre/Recovery role.

Physical Skills

Essential:

  • Dexterity and precision in performing clinical skills, utilizing equipment, and maintaining documentation. Competent in using medical equipment and capable of undertaking patient manual handling tasks.

Experience

Essential:

  • Experience supervising non-registered staff and students.

Desirable:

  • Evidence of mentoring abilities and involvement in link nurse or project work.

Communication & Relationship Skills

Essential:

  • Demonstrated effective written and verbal communication skills. Recognize personal competence and limitations, and communicate these to appropriate staff.

Desirable:

  • Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively within a team.
